Just days after the successful completion of the 9th annual Glide the Divide -- North Routt Coureur des Bois -- the Race organizers have announced the date for the 2014 Race: March 15, 2014. We hope to see all of this year's and past year's racers back to help us celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Race. We'll be posting information about next year's Race as plans develop, so check back here for more details in the future.
We know you're eager to see the results. The preliminary results are posted on the 2013 Results page. We'll be reorganizing the results to report them by Race, Style and Age Group in the very near future, but for now you can see them in documents produced by the timing system. Thanks to everyone who participated, we hope you enjoyed your Glide the Divide experience!
Update: Full results organized by race, gender, style and age group are now posted.
Since we have moved the start and finish lines to Columbine, we will be providing transportation to and from Columbine for skiers and spectators. There is no parking in Columbine, so please do not drive up there expecting to park and leave your car.
On the morning of the Race, the busses will run on a regular schedule from 7am to 9am (or shortly thereafter) to shuttle racers up to the Start Line. Busses will pick up passengers at the Hahn's Peak Roadhouse, the Steamboat Lake State Park Visitor's Center and the end of Main St. in Hahn's Peak Village approximately every 15 minutes.
We will make every effort to get all competitors up to Columbine in time to start their races, but also ask that racers pay attention to time and plan for early arrival. In addition, we ask that spectators give priority to racers during these peak hours.
After the first finishers start coming in (we anticipate around 10:15am), the busses will be positioned to take people back to the same dropoff points: the Roadhouse, the Visitor's Center and Main St. in the Village. Busses will depart when a full load is available. An enclosed tent and bonfire as well as a Feed Station will be available at the Finish Line while you wait for transportation.
Skiers, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to join us on Friday night, March 15, in Hahn's Peak Village for a Pre-Race Kickoff event.
The Hahn's Peak Cafe will be offering a special Pre-Race dinner for $15, including salad, main course, non-alcoholic beverage and a bar cookie dessert. The main course choices will be: Beef Lasagna, Shrimp Fresca (angel hair pasta tossed with sauteed shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic in a light olive and white wine sauce) or Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Pesto Sauce. Dinner will be served starting at 5pm.
A live acoustic band will begin at 7pm.
There will be a bonfire in the Village and you'll have free access to the Wax Room, just across from the Cafe.
And, while you're there you can check-in for the Race. Check-in and bib pickup will be available from 11am until 8pm at the Hahn's Peak Cafe.
Local musician Paul Geppert will be hosting an "Open Mic" session from 1-4pm at the Hahn's Peak Roadhouse. While everyone is relaxing and regenerating after the Race, share your musical talent or enjoy the talents of your fellow skiers and Glide the Divide volunteers.
From 5-8pm you'll be entertained by local bluegrass band, Ragweed.
This year Glide the Divide will be serving Herbalife Prolong as the race feed - this replaces gels or whatever else you might need on course for fuel. Click here to read more about Prolong.
We will also be serving Hydrate, all the electrolytes you require with only 1 gram of sugar. Click here to read more about Hydrate.
If you have further questions on the Herbalife products please contact Dave or Wendy Mark at hahnspeak@yahoo.
First cutoff item is 12:00pm (or 4 hours into the race). If you arrive at the Little Red Park Aid Station (#1) at the end of the first loop after this time, you will not be permitted to continue north to Wyoming on the second loop. You will be directed back to the finish and given a time for the 55K race. However, this time will not be in the official results for the 55K.
Second cutoff time is 1:30pm. If you arrive at the Wyoming State Line Aid Station (#2) after this time, a snowmobile will take you to the finish line.
For the safety of racers, these cutoffs will be strictly enforced. They reflect a just under 5 minutes per kilometer pace.
We're excited to announce a new course for this year's Glide the Divide -- America's Toughest Ski Race just got tougher! We're moving the start and finish of the Race to Columbine. Not only are we moving the start and finish to higher ground, the two long Races are now longer: the 90K is now 100K, and the 45K is now 55K. Longer courses for the same reasonable price!
All the courses start and end at Columbine: at the beginning of the day racers will be shuttled from the State Park Visitor's Center to the Columbine starting line (there will be no parking at the start). Upon finishing, skiers can enjoy the warmth of a bonfire and then grab the bus down to the Hahn's Peak Roadhouse to enjoy live music, the handing out of awards and a killer post-Race meal.
100k skiers: You'll depart at 8am for the Wyoming line, then over the Divide, and descend to Big Red Park. Here the course will take you to Little Red Park, where you'll take a right and head back to Wyoming for another trip over the Divide. After returning to the Little Red feed station you'll go left, back to the finish at Columbine. This course is tough!
55K skiers: The 55K loop is spectacular! You'll start at 9am from the Columbine parking lot, head north to the Wyoming border, do the dreaded Divide climb, descend to Big Red Park, and head back to the Little Red Park Feed station where you'll take a left and ski the 5.8km back to the Columbine finish line. The trip to the Wyoming line is a rare treat, the climb and descent of the Continental Divide is beautiful. The descent of the Divide to Big Red Park is a series of switch backs that skis very well. We feel this new course skis easier than the legacy 45K course even though it's longer. This should be a special treat for you, we'll return to our original course next year, so don't miss this!
15K skiers: We aim to draw you into the action of the bigger races with a course starting in Columbine (at 9:30am) and heading out to the Little Red feed station. Here you'll be treated to the famous North Routt ambiance and then return to the finish at Columbine. You'll get a taste of the remote back country experience and a chance to rub shoulders with the elite skiers who compete in the longer races. It may inspire you 15Kers to come back and try a longer Race next year!
This is going to be a great "limited edition" Glide the Divide! Don't miss it 'cause it's out there!
